1. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
Because of my recent interest in plays, this one in particular, I want to read this. I have an interest in Les Mis because I enjoy reading historical fiction. This book is set during the French Revolution, in which a noble peasant is imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread. I am excited to read this book because it is world-renound for having an amazing story.
2. Wither by Lauren Destefano
This book had an initial interst to me because of the cover art. As I began to read more about it, I saw that The New York Times had reviewed it to be "creepy and elegant", which is exactly the kind of book I want. The story is set in a future where scientists turn every newborn to die early; as a male, you die at 25, as a female you die at 20. I am excited to see how this trilogy will end.
3. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
Usually, when I see that a book is about fallen angels, I cringe and move on. However, this one caught my attention because of the last question on the blurb: "Do you have someone to catch you?" I like the idea of reading something outside of my usual and I think that this is a good book to start with.
4. Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz
I always have, and always will, love vampire books. This book really interested me because it is from the point of view of a human amongst the vampires, such as in one of my favorite books- Twilight. Because of that, I think I instantly fell in love with the idea of the outcast being thrown into the glamorous vampires, who end up needing her help.
5. Impossible by Nancy Werlin
This book was written about the song "Scarborough Fair" by Simon and Garfunkle. Though I had never heard the song before, I was interested in the sad, not-so-romantic tone of the book. I'm really excited to find out how Werlin has used the song, and what its true ending is.
6. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
I love classic books. Reading classics make me feel educated and as though I am all of the sudden more proper. This story of Marianne, a girl who falls in love with a rascal, and Elinor, who falls in love with an engaged man, already has me excited to find out whether they can get past their forbidden romances or if they will get the men of their dreams.
7. Unglued by Lysa Terkeurst
This book is actually a Christian book about controlling emotions, and not becoming unglued when things don't go our way. I want to read this book because I know that Terkeurst is a very good writer, and currently is a New York Times bestselling author. I hope for this book to be fun and interesting, while also giving me advice about keeping my cool during this stressful year.
8. Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly
Donnelly has a Carnegie Medal for her book A Northern Light, which shows me that she is a wonderful writer. This story interested me more than A Northern Light, though, because it is set in Paris. In this book, the main character, Andi, is on a midnight journey through the catacombs when she is sent back in time. I always enjoy a good historical fiction novel, and this one seemed like a fun read.
9. Aries Rising by Bonnie Hearn Hill
I have never really understood astrology or been very interested, however this book made astrology seem very intriguing. In this book, Logan is trying to change her entire life around; and the answers are in the stars. Just from the back of the book, I'm already excited to figure out the stars with Logan.
10. The Fool's Girl by Celia Rees
This story is a spin-off of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, which is enough of a reason for me to want to read it. As I once again enter the shores of Illyria and the Forest of Arden, I hope to fall in love with this story and its new twist.
